"Joris is a supposed son of Gerrit Couwenhoven and a presumed wife named Aeltie (also unidentified). A lengthy explanation of for this supposition and earlier placements of Joris within the Van Kouwenhoven family is discussed in NYGBR v.71 (1940) p.157, by Lincoln C. Cocheu." [1]

Joris was born about 1663. He is the son of William Gerretse Couwenhoven and Altje Brinckerhoff. [2]
His father William Gerritse Couwenhoven was born in year 1616. He married for his first wife Altje, daughter of Joris Dirckse Brinckerhoff on 12th of February, 1665, In married his second wife, Jannetje, daughter ..Pieter Monfoort. By his first wife he had two sons.: Garret and Joris or George, who married Alletta Luyster. or as spelled on Brick church records, Altige Luyster, where they became communicants in 1731. By his second wife he had eleven children...[3]
